How do air-cooled chillers work?
Air chillers absorb heat from process water and transfer it to the air around the the chiller device. They contain specific devices that chill water and absorb heat. These include a compressor, condenser, expansion valve, and evaporator. Air chillers use air to fuel condenser cooling, and excess heat is used to release heat into the ambient air.
Air-cooled chillers are versatile and can warm up spaces during winter without the need for traditional heating systems. For this reason, they are more cost-effective in both heating and cooling.
The evaporator has liquid refrigerant, which evaporates as it flows over an evaporator tube bundle. As the liquid evaporates, heat is absorbed from the chilled water in chilled water circulating through the system. The refrigerant vapor is then pulled by the compressor from the evaporator and pumped into the condenser. In the condenser tube, the refrigerant vapor increases in temperature and pressure condensing. In the process, the heat is released into the cooling air. As the high-pressure liquid moves back into the evaporator through the expansion device, its pressure goes down, and so does the temperature. The refrigerant flows back over the chilled water coils and absorbs more heat to complete the continuous cycle.
